Play of Hope Shines at the East African Badminton Tournament 2025

From 17th to 20th October 2025, Play of Hope athletes stepped onto the courts at the East Africa City Tyres East African Badminton Tournament one of the most important events on Badminton Uganda’s calendar. The tournament brought together top young talent from across the region, creating a competitive and inspiring environment that tested skill, discipline, and mental strength.

Play of Hope fielded a strong team of 35 athletes across multiple age categories, ranging from Under 10 to Under 19, in both boys’ and girls’ singles events. For many of these young players, the tournament was not just about medals, but about exposure, experience, and learning how to compete at a high level. Each match presented an opportunity to grow on the court and beyond it.

The hard work and commitment of the athletes paid off with outstanding performances. In the Girls Under 15 category, Abigail Ndagire Mawanda emerged as the winner, with Ruth Ayikoru finishing as first runner-up. Berindah Nakintu claimed victory in the Girls Under 13 category, while Blessing Agatesi dominated the Girls Under 10 division to take the top position. These achievements reflect not only individual talent, but also the consistent training, mentorship, and support behind each player.

Beyond the results, the tournament highlighted what Play of Hope stands for—using sport as a platform to build confidence, discipline, and positive direction for young people. Every rally played and every match contested was a reminder that when youth are given opportunity, structure, and belief, they can rise to remarkable heights. As Play of Hope continues to nurture young talent, moments like these affirm the power of sport to transform lives and shape brighter futures.
