IOC Member William Blick Visits Play of Hope and Inspires Young Athletes
Play of Hope Uganda was honored to welcome William Blick, a member of the International Olympic Committee, who visited the club and spent time engaging with young athletes, parents, and coaches.
During his visit, Blick interacted warmly with the players, sharing his personal journey in sport — from his early days as a student-athlete to representing Uganda in rugby. A former national rugby player, he also spoke about his leadership roles in sports administration, including serving as President of the Uganda Rugby Union and the Uganda Olympic Committee. His story highlighted how sport shaped his life, supporting his education and instilling discipline, resilience, and focus.

Speaking to both athletes and their parents, Blick emphasized the importance of intentional support in a child’s sporting journey. He reflected on how he has actively supported his own children in sports and encouraged parents present to continue nurturing and believing in their children’s potential. His message reinforced the role of family and community in building confident and successful young athletes.
The visit also brought moments of excitement and encouragement for the players. Blick pledged to reward excellence by purchasing badminton rackets for the winners of the City Tyres Tournament 2026, Belinda Nakintu and Blessing Agatesi. In addition, he promised to organize a tournament for the club during the upcoming school holidays, creating further opportunities for competition and growth.
His visit served as a powerful source of inspiration for the Play of Hope community, reminding young athletes that with discipline, support, and dedication, sport can open doors to both personal and professional success.
